Additional Event Information & Acknowledgement of Industry Spo
nsor(s):Speakers are Cary Grant, Assistant Professor of Aeronautical Scienc
e, President ASAG, United Captain (Ret), Lt Col USAF (Ret), and
Brian Roggo, Associate Dean of the College of Aviation, Department Chair of
safety Science, will discuss the FAA Compliance Program and how it complim
ents the goals of FAA Safety. Craig Tompkins and Ernie Cope
land are the FAA Safety Team Program Managers for the Scottsdale Fligh
t Standards District Office.\nPlease bring a tablet or laptop to follow alo
ng on account creation and data inputs.\nThe objective of the WINGS—Pilot P
roficiency Program is to reduce the number of accidents in General Aviation
(GA) by assisting airmen to find educational opportunities designed to hel
p them apply the principles of risk assessment and risk management (RM). Wh
en properly applied, these principles will help mitigate accident causal fa
ctors associated with common pilot errors, lack of proficiency, and faulty
knowledge. The Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) purpose is to encour
age the majority of GA pilots, through WINGS, to engage in ongoing, targete
d flying tasks and learning activities keyed to identified risks and which
are designed to mitigate those risks.\nThe Compliance Program represents a
focus on using — where appropriate — non-enforcement methods, or "Complianc
e Actions." A Compliance Action can be described as FAA's non-enforcem
ent methods for correcting unintentional deviations or noncompliance that a
rise from factors such as flawed systems and procedures, simple mistakes, l
ack of understanding, or diminished skills. A Compliance Action is not a le
gal adjudication, nor does it constitute a finding of violation.\nPilot air
space deviations continue to be a major risk in the national airspace syste
m. To reduce the chance that you might be involved in an airspace devi
ation incident, you are highly encouraged to take an on-line learning cente
r course on http://www.faasafety.gov/. Or search the learning lib
rary for associated guidance on airspace incursions. Remember, safe an
d prudent airmen have superior situational awareness and have a plan to kee
p it that way.\nEqual Access Information:The FAA Safety Team (FAASTeam) is
committed to providing equal access to this meeting/event for all participa
nts. If you need alternative formats or services because of a disability, p
lease communicate your request as soon as possible with the person in the “
