Aircraft Icing
A presentation of in-flight and ground icing: preflight planning, identification, safety implications, and ADM.
Date and Time: Thursday, October 27, 2016, starting at 18:30 Arizona
Speaker(s): Brian Roggow - CFI / CFII / MEI / FAASTeam Lead Rep & Erica Diels - CFI / CFII / MEI
Brief Description:
Many accidents have been caused by the accumulation of ice and the resulting loss of aircraft performance. These have been a result of both in-flight and ground ice encounters. This seminar will focus on proper preflight planning to avoid icing conditions, and appropriate aeronautical decision making related to both ground and in-flight ice accumulation. We will also review the applicable parts of the Aeronautical Information Manual (AIM) related to icing. A few accident records will also be discussed to discuss how past accidents may have been prevented. The event will last approximately 2 hours.

Pilot airspace deviations continue to be a major risk in the national airspace system. To reduce the chance that you might be involved in an airspace deviation incident, you are highly encouraged to take an on-line learning center course on http://www.faasafety.gov/. Or search the learning library for associated guidance on airspace incursions. Remember, safe and prudent airmen have superior situational awareness and have a plan to keep it that way.
Thanks! A message from your local FAASTeam.
